My simple applesauce cake from the tray
Fluffy sponge cake meets sweet applesauce and creamy sour cream in the applesauce cake. The simple sheet cake is perfect for many guests and is guaranteed to delight the whole family. Whether for afternoon coffee, a child’s birthday or for parties in the office, applesauce cake is always a good choice. And the best thing: you don’t have to chop apples for the juicy cake, so it saves a lot of time!
You need these ingredients for the fluffy batter
- Eggs
The eggs should always be at room temperature before baking and should not be used straight from the fridge. - Sugar
- oil
I recommend a neutral oil like sunflower oil or rapeseed oil. - mineral water
- Flour
For the dough I use type 405 wheat flour. - baking powder
I use exclusively Cream of tartar baking powder, like this one from Dr. Oetker. Unlike conventional baking powder, cream of tartar baking powder does not contain phosphates, but rather natural tartaric acid.
These ingredients then come on top
- applesauce
I know the cake is called applesauce cake. However, I use Instead of applesauce, always use apple puree. Do you already know the difference? In contrast to applesauce, apple puree is not sweetened and only contains the sugar from the apples. You can actually get apple pulp in all supermarkets and discount stores. - whipped cream
- sour cream
- Vanilla
Everything tastes better with vanilla, whether for sweetening cakes, tarts and muffins or for my vanilla porridge and of course the classic vanilla crescents. This is particularly practical Gourmet vanilla mill from Dr. Oetker with adjustable grinder for optimal dosage. In this cake, the vanilla is added to the sour cream and, because it tastes delicious, again as a topping over the cream. - Cinnamon sugar
You can easily make the cinnamon sugar yourself. To do this, simply mix 3 teaspoons of sugar with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.
This is how you prepare the applesauce cake
You can find the exact quantities for the cake recipe in my recipe card below.
Prepare batter
First, put eggs and sugar in a bowl and beat until fluffy. Then fold in the oil and mineral water.
Place the flour and baking powder in another bowl and mix together. This is important so that the dough rises evenly when baking. Then add both to the remaining ingredients and mix into a dough.
Now pour the batter evenly onto a baking tray lined with baking paper or into a greased large baking tin and bake in the oven. Then let it cool down.
Cover the cake
Spread the cake with applesauce. Then whip the cream until stiff and mix with the sour cream and a little vanilla. Spread the cream on the applesauce layer and sprinkle everything with ground vanilla and cinnamon sugar.
You should put the applesauce cake in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours before eating.
Why you should definitely try the applesauce cake
