My Leek vegetables is a simple one Grandma’s style side dish. With mine Basic recipe You can cook creamy leek vegetables in just 20 minutes and create hearty moments of happiness and childhood memories at the dinner table. Perfect for anyone who likes things uncomplicated but still sophisticated.

Ingredients for leek vegetables

Leek, also known as leek, is a versatile vegetable and goes wonderfully as a side dish with potatoes, fish or meat dishes. For my creamy leek vegetables you only need a handful of ingredients, which you can quickly find in any supermarket.

Form the basis for the simple side dish recipe leek as well as vegetable broth and cream for the creamy sauce. To do this you will need a few basics from your pantry and these would be Salt, pepper and nutmeg as well as butter and Flour for the roux.

With just a few ingredients, you can quickly conjure up a delicious vegetable side dish that the whole family will enjoy.

  1. Prepare the leek
    First prepare the leek and cut it into rings. Wash the leek rings thoroughly, as the layers of the leek sticks often contain sand or earth.
  2. Steaming
    Now steam the leek in a pan. Stir occasionally so that it cooks evenly.
  3. Prepare sauce
    Then add the vegetable stock, cream and spices and simmer until the sauce is nice and creamy. Now just season the vegetables as desired and the hearty side dish is ready to enjoy.

What do leek vegetables go with?

Leek vegetables go perfectly as a side dish with all kinds of potatoes, for example classic boiled potatoes, creamy mashed potatoes or crispy fried potatoes. But the hearty vegetables are also a wonderful addition to meat and fish dishes such as my oven-baked salmon or homemade meatballs.

My creamy leek vegetables, Grandma’s style, are easily cooked in 20 minutes and taste great with potatoes, fish and meat.

Total time 20 minutes

  • Cut the leek into rings and rinse them thoroughly.

    800 g leeks

  • Melt the butter in a pan and cook the leek, covered, over medium heat for 15 minutes until soft. Stir occasionally.

    2 tbsp butter

  • Fold in the flour and stir in the vegetable stock and cream. Let it boil down for 5 minutes, seasoning with salt, pepper and nutmeg.

    2 tbsp flour, 250 ml vegetable broth, 200 g cream for cooking, Salt, Pepper, nutmeg
