Description
Easy and delicious recipe for Mexican puff pastry stick with chicken and organic cream cheese. An easy idea for dinner, lunch or buffet.
Ingredients list
- 1 pc. puff pastry
- 250 g. chicken breast
- 2 tbsp. rapeseed or sunflower oil
- salt/pepper
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 0.5 pcs. red bell pepper
- 0.5 pcs. green pepper
- 1 pc. red onion
- 150 g. natural organic cream cheese
- 0.5 letter fajita spice mix
- 1 pc. egg
- 1 tsp. chili flakes
Procedure
- Clean chicken breast and cut into strips.
- Heat a pan with fat. Add chicken and let it fry until it has colored all over. Season the chicken with salt/pepper.
- Then add the garlic, bell pepper and red onion. Turn around well.
- Add the fajita spice mix and turn it around so that it is just seared well. Then take it all off and let it cool down a bit.
- Mix in organic natural cream cheese.
- Turn on the oven at 200 degrees fan.
- Unfold the puff pastry.
- Spread the filling in the center of the puff pastry sheet.
- Use a pizza cutter or a regular. knife to cut “strips” in the puff pastry along the sides of the filling.
- Fold the strips over each other alternately from side to side.
- Fold the ends under the dough.
- Brush with a beaten egg and sprinkle with chilli flakes.
- Bake the puff pastry bar on the second bottom rack of the oven for approx. 20-30 minutes, depending on how powerful your oven is. Keep an eye on it after 20 minutes. It should be golden brown on top.
- Take it out of the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.

Puff pastry sticks are always a hit, whether for dinner, at a buffet or as a slightly more luxurious lunch. It is also easy to make and requires very few ingredients. This crispy puff pastry stick is made with fried chicken, peppers, fajita spice mix and organic natural cream cheese. We always use organic cream cheese in our puff pastry sticks. It gives a good filling and binds the filling well together so that it does not become dry either.

Butter dough with cream cheese
Organic cream cheese is also just as organic as other products. So it makes just as much sense to buy organic cream cheese as other organic foods. You still get the good taste and in a recipe like this, it is therefore indispensable, as it gives some creaminess to the puff pastry stick. So you get creamy and tasty filling, which is wrapped in crispy puff pastry. It just tastes good and is a lovely combination. Server possibly with a fresh salad and then you have an easy and quick dinner, where the greens are also turned up.
Butter dough with organic cream cheese can also be made in many varieties. Here we have chosen to make a version that is inspired by Mexican cuisine. But such a classic puff pastry stick with ham, i.e. a ham stick with organic cream cheese, can also be recommended to that extent. It is the one that many people may know from their parents at home. At least we were served it quite a few times in our childhood. An eternal classic.
Dinner with puff pastry
It’s just an easy dinner with puff pastry, which is quick to whip up. We also love the filling of chicken, peppers, onions and fajita seasoning. It gives such a good and at the same time very mild taste, which is bound together so nicely by the organic cream cheese. We have used a natural version, but in principle you can use exactly the organic cream cheese that you want. You can also use a flavored one and leave out the fajita seasoning.
