Stuffed mushrooms: tips & recipes

Stuffed mushrooms: recipes and tips

Stuffed mushrooms are very popular and can be creatively prepared vegetarian, vegan or with meat. We have great recipes and tips for you.

Recipes: Mushrooms stuffed with meat

Mett and minced meat are ideal for stuffing mushrooms, as the minced meat adapts to the shape of the mushroom during cooking and sticks firmly to the mushroom head. But finely chopped cooked ham or diced salami are also suitable as contents. For example, combined with diced peppers or spring onion rings. For even more stick and flavor, bake stuffed mushrooms with grated cheese such as Gouda, Edam or Parmesan. Bon appetit!

Recipes: Mushrooms with vegetarian filling

For a vegetarian mushroom filling, the first choice is cheese such as feta, Gouda or herb cream cheese, which work plain as a filling. The result tastes more refined if you combine the cheese with vegetables and spices. For example, try a spiced mushroom dip, an aromatic tomato salsa or a spinach and feta vegetable as a filling for your mushrooms.

Recipes: Mushrooms with vegan filling

A vegan filling for mushrooms can be prepared from legumes or grain products (lentils, chickpeas or polenta) or from vegetables processed into puree (e.g. pumpkin, eggplant, spinach or tomatoes). Dried tomatoes, olives, capers, onions, parsley or garlic are suitable for intensive seasoning. In our recipe section you will find delicious recipes for vegan mushroom fillings such as pepper and eggplant puree, lentil spinach or pumpkin chutney – try them!

Once a classic at barbecues, stuffed mushrooms are now also prepared in the oven outside of the barbecue season. The fillings for the mushroom caps go far beyond the well-known minced meat or cream cheese. Vegetarian and vegan cuisine in particular offer spicy mixtures that are suitable for fillings. But before it comes to filling and For grilling and baking, the mushrooms must be selected and prepared.

Which mushrooms are suitable for stuffing?

Large mushroom caps like those of giant mushrooms are best filled. But even with the conventional sizes from the supermarket, filling them isn’t a problem – you just need a little more tact.

Prepare mushrooms for stuffing

Mushrooms from the supermarket are usually only slightly dirty, which is why they are quick and easy to clean. It is best to remove soil residue from the mushrooms with a brush. Alternatively, gently wipe away the soil with kitchen paper. Then cut out the base of the stem with a knife. This creates a free indentation into which the filling is placed.
