Sweet potato and minced meat for our casserole
A few simple, delicious ingredients, a fresh salad on the side and we have a perfect lunch or dinner on the table. But what actually makes our casserole?
- Sweet potatoes: The orange tuber is full of fiber and vitamins and has little fat. With its slightly sweet taste, it is a perfect counterpart to the spicy minced meat. You can also use normal potatoes instead of sweet potatoes. The baking time is then extended by approx. 10 minutes.
- minced meat: We chose our recipe for ground beef because it has a slightly more intense flavor than pork. But you can just as easily use mixed minced meat. If you buy your minced meat fresh from the butcher or meat counter, you should definitely process it within 24 hours. For a vegetarian version, you can also replace the minced meat with red kidney beans.
Sweet potato and minced meat casserole with feta
Whether in a fruity watermelon feta salad or as breaded feta with pistachios, feta goes with almost everything. The Greek sheep’s cheese gives our sweet potato feta mince casserole an extra dose of spice and is a good contrast to the slightly sweet note of the sweet potatoes. You can simply crumble the feta roughly over your casserole with your fingers before it goes into the oven.

Creamy sweet potato minced meat casserole
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees hot air. Prepare a baking dish.
Wash the sweet potatoes, peel them and cut them into thin slices of approx. 3mm. Drain the tomatoes so that the casserole doesn’t get too watery. Layer the potatoes in the baking dish. Occasionally add a layer of drained tomato pieces and season with salt, pepper, paprika powder and thyme.
800 g sweet potatoes, 1 tbsp thyme, 1 pinch of salt, pepper, paprika powder, 400 g tomatoes in pieces
Press the garlic into the cream, mix well and pour over the sweet potatoes.
200 g cream, 2 cloves of garlic
Finally add the minced meat, feta and grated cheese on top.
400 g minced meat, 200 g grated cheese, 200g feta
Bake in the oven for about 40 minutes until the sweet potatoes are soft (test with a fork or knife after about 30-35 minutes).
- Beans: Please do not use raw beans, but rather pre-cooked beans.
- Mushrooms: Cut these into slices and let them collapse in a non-stick pan without oil for a few minutes so that they don’t draw too much water in the casserole.
